The first major CRPG built on the updated Dungeons & Dragons 5e ruleset arrives next week. Solasta II enters Steam Early Access on March 12, 2026, one week from today. Tactical Adventures is bringing an open world, six classes with subclasses, and a voice cast that includes actors from Baldur’s Gate 3 and Final Fantasy XVI. If you played the original Solasta: Crown of the Magister, this is the sequel you asked for. If you played Baldur’s Gate 3 and want more D&D on PC, this is where to look next.

Launch Details

Solasta II enters Early Access on March 12, 2026 exclusively on Steam. The game is PC only at launch. Pricing has not been confirmed yet, but the original Solasta launched at $39.99 for reference.

The early access build includes over 10 hours of gameplay covering a portion of Act I. The level cap is 4 at launch. Tactical Adventures estimates the early access period will last approximately one year, with the 1.0 release targeting a level cap of 10 and the complete main questline.

What is Solasta II?

Solasta II is a turn-based tactical RPG set in the fantasy world of Neokos. Unlike the original game’s dungeon-focused design, the sequel features an open world where you freely roam, explore, and uncover the map at your own pace.

Solasta II gameplay showing tactical combat on a grid-based battlefield

The game is built on the SRD 5.2 ruleset, the updated 2024 version of the Dungeons & Dragons rules. This means new mechanics like Weapon Masteries that give martial classes more tactical variety in combat. You roll dice, position your party on a grid, and make decisions that matter. If you liked BG3’s combat system but wished it leaned harder into tactical depth, Solasta has always been that game.

The engine is Unreal Engine 5, a massive upgrade from the original game. Expect better lighting, more detailed environments, and significantly improved character models.

Six Classes at Launch

The early access build ships with six classes, each with two to three subclasses:

Fighter. The reliable frontliner. High armor, high damage, straightforward to play. A strong first pick if you want someone holding the line.

Paladin. Holy warrior combining melee combat with divine magic. Smites, healing, and aura buffs make the Paladin one of the most versatile classes in 5e.

Rogue. Sneak Attack damage, skill expertise, and unmatched flexibility outside combat. The Rogue rewards positioning and creative thinking.

Wizard. The classic spellcaster with the largest spell list in the game. Fragile but devastating when you manage spell slots correctly.

Sorcerer. Fewer spells than the Wizard but more raw casting power. Metamagic lets you twist spells in ways other casters cannot.

Cleric. Healer, buffer, and surprisingly capable in a fight. The Cleric is essential for longer dungeon runs and tough boss encounters.

Four ancestries are available at launch: Human, Elf, Dwarf, and Halfling. More classes and ancestries will be added throughout the early access period.

A Voice Cast Worth Paying Attention To

Tactical Adventures assembled a cast that signals serious ambition.

Amelia Tyler voices Shadwyn, the game’s central antagonist. You know her as the narrator of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Hades II. She is arguably the most recognized voice in modern CRPGs.

Ben Starr plays Rickard Colwall, the eldest of the Colwall siblings. Starr voiced Clive in Final Fantasy XVI and recently appeared in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Devora Wilde portrays Deorcas Colwall, a warrior driven by grief and doubt. Wilde voiced Lae’zel in Baldur’s Gate 3 and also appeared in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Ellen Thomas rounds out the lead cast. The voice acting is present from the early access launch onward, not a post-launch addition.

Early Access Roadmap

Tactical Adventures plans to add throughout the early access period:

  • Online co-op multiplayer (not available at launch but coming in updates)
  • More playable classes and ancestries
  • Additional locations, monsters, and quests
  • New spells, encounters, and magic items
  • The complete main questline for 1.0

The 1.0 release will raise the level cap to 10 and deliver the full story. Based on the original Solasta’s early access period, expect regular updates with meaningful new content every few months.

Solasta II showing the open world of Neokos

Do You Need to Play Solasta 1 First?

No. Solasta II takes place in Neokos, a completely new setting separate from the original game’s world of Solasta. The story, characters, and locations are all new. Playing Crown of the Magister will give you familiarity with how Tactical Adventures handles D&D rules in a video game, but it is not required.

The original is still worth playing on its own merits. It is one of the most faithful D&D 5e adaptations on PC, with excellent dungeon design and a strong modding community.

How It Compares to Baldur’s Gate 3

The obvious comparison. Baldur’s Gate 3 set a new bar for CRPGs with its production values, narrative ambition, and massive scope. Solasta II is not trying to match that scale. It is a different kind of D&D game.

Where BG3 leans into cinematic storytelling and player freedom, Solasta focuses on tactical combat fidelity. The dice rolls are transparent. The grid is visible. Verticality, lighting, and environmental hazards play a bigger role in encounters. If BG3 is the D&D campaign where your DM prioritizes roleplay, Solasta is the one where your DM builds elaborate tactical encounters.

Both approaches are valid. Both are worth your time.

This is shaping up to be a strong week for early access launches. If you are looking for something in a completely different genre, Slay the Spire 2 just entered early access today with five characters and 4-player co-op. For more upcoming indie games, check our March 2026 indie preview.
